Bridge of Isabel II

Bridge of Isabel II

The new bridge from 1862 crossing the Eume.

It was build by the command of the queen Isabel II, and it allowed to cross the river Eume on the road to Castile coming from Ferrol. It was part of a modernization programme of roads in the kingdom, and in this case it was part of the updating of the old royal path to Castile, from Ferrol to A Ponte de Rábade.

It is a strong building over walls made of granite stone bricks with three semicircular arches leaning on granite walls on both sides of the river. The roadway ends on its sides with granite parapets, where there is a  plaque remembering its construction and the year of ending, 1862.
