Ethnographic Museum Monte Caxado

Ethnographic Museum Monte Caxado

The museum which keeps the memory of society in As Pontes alive.

This is one of the main museums about culture of As Pontes. Its origin is linked to the quick disappearance of a life style due to the progress of the lignite mine.

In order to get the memory of places and people alive, and to transmit traditions to new generations, a project was born within the public school Monte Caxado. It started on the academic year 1984-1985 with the teacher José María López Ferro in the lead.

The museum is located in the historical centre, in the Praza da Igrexa. The current museum was opened in 2019, and visits are allowed Tuesday-Friday from18:00 to 19:30, and weekends and holy days from 11:30 to 13:00.

There is a permanent exhibition along the two floors of the building, and daily life objects can be seen, together with professions in As Pontes throughout time. The museum has also other documents, such as photos, audios and videos.

The Ethnographic Museum Monte Caxado is located in the Praza da Igrexa.
